Lesson 11 - Forehand_smash– description

The forehand smash is an exciting and powerful shot that kids can learn to add to their table tennis skills. It's a shot used to finish points with speed and precision, and it can be a real game-changer. Here's a basic description to help beginners understand and practice the forehand smash. To start, kids should position themselves at a comfortable distance from the table, with their feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent.

They should hold the racket with a firm but relaxed grip, ensuring their wrist is flexible and ready to generate power. When the ball comes towards them, usually after a high bounce or a weak return from their opponent, kids can step forward with their non-dominant foot and transfer their weight onto their front foot. As the ball reaches the ideal height, they should swing their racket forward in a sweeping motion.

To execute the forehand smash, kids should aim to make contact with the ball at the highest point possible, just above the level of the net. They should try to strike the ball with the front part of the racket, using the sweet spot for better control and power. During the swing, kids can rotate their waist and shoulders to generate additional power and follow through with their shot. It's important to keep the arm relaxed and maintain good balance throughout the motion. The objective of the forehand smash is to hit the ball with speed and accuracy, making it difficult for their opponent to return. Kids should aim for the corners or the open spaces on their opponent's side of the table.

By practicing the forehand smash, kids can develop a strong attacking weapon in their game. It's important to remind kids to focus on their technique, timing, and footwork. Regular practice and repetition will help them improve their accuracy, power, and consistency in executing the forehand smash.

Coaches or instructors can provide guidance and drills to help kids refine their technique and develop confidence in their shot. Encourage kids to have fun while learning and practicing the forehand smash. It's a shot that can bring excitement and add variety to their game. They can try different shot placements, experiment with spin variations, and use the forehand smash strategically during matches.
